Foothills Lutheran Church of Calgary
Reformation 500

Christ Alone! Christ Forever!

In 1517, a man named Martin Luther posted a list of concerns about abuses in the church. And the world changed. Now, 500 years later, we celebrate the blessings that God brought back to His Church through the Reformation.

The Reformation was, first and foremost, all about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was then, and it still is now. As Foothills Lutheran Church celebrates its 50th anniversary, we remember that the our mission and ministry has always been about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was when we began our work; it is all about Jesus now.

The Reformation Church proclaimed three solas: Sola Gratia; Sola Fide; Sola Scriptura, meaning By Grace Alone, By Faith Alone, By Scripture Alone. These solas declare that:

• Our salvation is entirely a gift of grace from God and not our own doing.
• We receive that grace through faith and not by any works we might do.
• The sole norm and rule of all doctrine is the Holy Scriptures.

We invite you to come and join us as we commemorate this milestone, and as we thank God for His blessing through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We will do this through a special Reformation Festival Service on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at 3:00 pm. This is a joint service with the congregations of the Calgary Circuit of Lutheran Church--Canada.

50 for 50 Celebration

To celebrate the 50th anniversary, we are organizing 50 servant events for our congregation to participate in throughout the next year. See the link below for the events schedule. We encourage you to participate in as many as you can, and sign-up on the Human Care Ministries board by the fellowship hall for any that require it.

Human Care Ministries - 50 for 50 Events

Entering a church is a little like entering somebody’s house. You usually don’t step right into the kitchen and sit down to eat. You come into the porch or entrance area first. After looking around for a minute or two, you might sit down and chat for a while in the living room. Hopefully, eventually, you get to move into the kitchen and sit down and eat together and really have some meaningful conversation.

By clicking on our Foothills Lutheran Church website you have “rung our doorbell.” We have opened the door and you have stepped into our porch. Here, you can look around a little bit and see what we’re all about. We’ve got a plaque hanging in the porch to tell you what we know and believe about God. Please read it.

As you step farther into our site, you can listen to some of the living room “conversation” – what we’re doing today, what plans we have for tomorrow. We welcome you to join in the conversation.

We would encourage you to step even farther in by inquiring about something that interests you, by meeting some of our church “family” or by worshiping God with us. If you have some questions or if you are ready for some deep and meaningful conversation about life and about God (spiritual food), we’re ready for that, too.

WELCOME to our church! We’re glad you’ve stepped inside.
