Human Care Ministries
Human Care Ministries - what is it? PDF Print

The Board of Human Care Ministries connects people with God's love through caring relationships and well-targeted service.  Using the diverse talents found within the Foothills Lutheran Church family, we reach out loving hands to help in many different areas of need, unhappiness and suffering.

We offer this caring ministry to members of our own congregation and also to neighbours who come into contact with Foothills Lutheran Church through its outreach ministries, including the Pre-School.

We also care for the greater community by supporting the Mustard Seed, the Calgary Inter-Faith Foodbank, and Meals on Wheels.

Care for the Caregiver Workshop Jan 20 2013 PDF Print

Have you heard of the term "The Sandwich Generation"?

It is used to apply to the many people who nowadays are providing some level of care and support for their aging parents while their own family is still at home.  This can result in some pretty heavy demands being made on time, energy and emotions.

We have examples of the Sandwich Generation in our own church family and also others who, while lovingly helping to support family or friends through times of need, are also experiencing similar stresses and strains.

Human Care Ministries has enlisted the help of Charlene Retzlaff, who is the resources liaison officer for Alberta Health Services Family Care Centre here in Calgary. Charlene is coming to speak to us on January 20th after the second service. She will address some of the common problems facing the Sandwich Generation and other caregivers, and share some ideas for self-care and for tackling issues frequently associated with care-giving.

Do come and join us for a soup lunch before the presentation. To help us with catering numbers, there is a sign-up sheet on the Human Care notice board, just outside the Fellowship Hall.

2012 Carolling PDF Print

On Friday, December 14th, about thirty members of our congregation went to the homes of some of our home-bound members to celebrate the birth of our Lord.  They sang Christmas carols and delivered plates of homemade cookies.  The weather was beautiful and the groups were large so they often stood outside to carol, spreading the joy to neighbours too.  Thank you to all who attended!
